10 MINUTES WITH ROBBIE

Q: WITH ANY NEW MODALITY YOU GET INTO, HOW DO YOU APPROACH IT IN ORDER TO MASTER?

Don't overthink it. Just go for it. With time you will become more comfortable with pushing your personal boundaries. This is when mastery can begin.

Q: WHAT’S THE ONE WORKOUT YOU ALWAYS DREAD? WHAT’S THE ONE WORKOUT YOU ALWAYS LOOK FORWARD TO? WHY?

I dread cold early morning runs though I acknowledge the hardest part is getting out the door. Once I'm moving, it's all good.

I most look forward to long runs on single-track trails through the mountains. There is nothing like traversing long distances in the wild.

Q: WHAT LESSONS HAVE YOU LEARNED FROM FITNESS THAT HAVE SERVED YOU THROUGHOUT YOUR LIFE?

“You can do anything you set your mind to” - My mom instilled this mantra into me at a young age. Nothing is impossible if you are willing to set your mind to it and do the work.

Q: WHAT LESSONS HAVE YOU LEARNED FROM FITNESS THAT HAVE SERVED YOU THROUGHOUT YOUR LIFE?

Pain and discomfort are no reason to quit. It’s better to lean into discomfort than to back away.

Q: WHAT PIECE OF ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE YOUR TWENTY-YEAR OLD SELF?

Enjoy the ride. It'll all be ok.

Q: WHAT’S ON YOUR FITNESS BUCKET LIST?

To continue pushing my limits as an ultra endurance athlete. I want to keep setting my sights higher. To higher mileage and to higher elevations. I love moving my body across high elevation terrains. My aspirations point to ranges such as the Himalaya, Andes, and Alps.

Q: WHY DO YOU PRIORITIZE FITNESS IN YOUR LIFE?

I believe running is innate to us as humans. It is a primal necessity for us to survive and thrive. When I move my body this notion comes into full focus, all my senses are heightened, I feel focused, present, and at peace. I am right where my DNA wants me to be.

Q: DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE FAILURE? HOW HAS THAT SET YOU UP FOR LATER SUCCESS?

Na.
